To log into your Institute For Open Learning student portal, follow the steps below 

  1. Visit the student website via student.iol.na
  2. Click on the Log in button located at the top left-right of the page
  3. Enter your Student Number and Password
  4. Then, click on the Login button to access your student portal

Program Name: Policing – Certificate in Policing (POLC) (NQF Level 5)

Program FocusProvide an entry route into policing

  • Successfully passed Grade 12 or a Pre-qualification in Policing (Level 4)

Program Name: Policing – Pre-Qualification Certificate (POLP) (NQF Level 4)

Program FocusDesigned for students who do not meet the entry requirements for the Certificate in Policing.

Successful completion enables further studies towards the Certificate in Policing (Level 5)

Admission Requirements
  • You must be older than 16 years
  • Successfully passed Grade 10

Program Name: Advanced Certificate in Senior Primary Education (ACPE) (NQF Level 7)

Program Focus

Develop skilled, committed, and insightful professionals with subject knowledge and pedagogical skills for effective and inclusive learning in primary schools.

Aims to provide a quick and effective one-year upgrading qualification for Grade 1-7 teachers, aligning with the educational goals of Vision 2030 for ‘quality education for all.

Admission Requirements
  • (a) Holder of a three-year junior or senior primary teacher qualification.
  • The two major senior primary school subjects to be selected in the Advanced Certificate must have been offered in the three-year qualification
  • Alternatively, at least one of the two majors must have been offered in the three-year qualification and the other major offered in grade 12
  • (b) Mature age entry: Applicant must be 23 years or older on the day of registration, should have completed junior secondary education, and has at least two (2) years of relevant teaching experience (grade 4-7)

Program Name: Diploma in Junior Primary Education (DJPE) (NQF Level 7)

Program FocusDevelop skilled, committed, and insightful professionals with subject knowledge and pedagogical skills for effective and inclusive learning in Junior primary schools

Designed as a three-year initial teacher education qualification meeting all Namibian requirements, providing a solid foundation for national human resources development, and supporting learner success in Grades 0 – 3.

Admission Requirements
  • Namibian Senior Secondary Certificate (NSSC) Ordinary/ Higher or recognized equivalent with a minimum of twenty-two (22) points in five (5) subjects, including a C in English and a D in Mathematics.
  • Mature age entry: Applicant should be 23 years or older on the day of registration, should have completed junior secondary education (Grade eleven (11)), or if the applicant only has Grade ten (10), must have two (2) years of teaching experience.
  • Transfer from the IOL ‘Pre-Primary Diploma’ to this new ‘Junior Primary Diploma’ with recognition for all credits accumulated.

Program Name: Diploma in Secondary Education (DSE) (NQF Level 7)

Program FocusDesigned to offer a quick and effective upgrade for secondary teachers holding a level six (6) qualification.

Focuses on two (2) school subjects and their teaching methodologies, including modules on learner development, teaching science, learner counseling, assessment, inclusive support, teaching-learning resources, curriculum studies, and educational management and research.

Admission Requirements
  • Holder of a three-year secondary teacher qualification such as BETD with a specialization in Junior Secondary OR any other recognized level six (6) secondary diploma.
  • The two school subjects to be selected in the DSE must have been taken in grade twelve (12) with a (D in ordinary level) OR in the three-year Diploma, as majors in the junior secondary specialization.
  • Transfer from the ‘Advanced Certificate in Secondary Education (ACSE)’ to the new ‘Diploma in Secondary Education’ with recognition for all credits accumulated.

Program Name: Diploma in Education: Secondary (DES) (NQF Level 7)

Program FocusAims to develop competent beginner professionals who are skilled, committed, and insightful.

Provides subject content and technological pedagogical knowledge required for effective and inclusive learning in secondary schools.

Admission Requirements
  • Minimum score of twenty-two (22) points in the five (5) best school subjects. One of the five subjects must be English (as a Second Language) with a C symbol on the Ordinary level or English (as a First language) with a D symbol.
  • The two school subjects to be selected as majors in the Diploma must also be part of the five subjects of the grade 12 qualification with at least a D symbol on the ordinary level.
  • Mature age entry: Applicant should be 23 years or older on the day of registration.
  • Should have completed the Namibian Senior Secondary Certificate (NSSC) Ordinary/ Higher or recognized equivalent with a minimum of nineteen (19) points in the best five (5) subjects. One of the five subjects must be English (as a Second Language) with a C symbol on an Ordinary level or English (as a First language) with a D symbol.
  • The two school subjects to be selected as majors in the Diploma must also be part of the five subjects of the grade 12 qualification with at least a D symbol on the Ordinary level.
  • The applicant should also have at least three (3) years of relevant teaching experience in junior or senior secondary.
  • The applicant through mature age entry should submit a personal statement about why you desires to become a teacher.

Program Name: Diploma in Education – Post Graduate Diploma (DE) (NQF Level 7)

Program FocusAimed at developing individual degree holders who want to join the teaching profession.

Objectives include transforming individuals into skilled, committed, and insightful teachers with subject knowledge, pedagogical skills, and general education to promote effective and inclusive learning in secondary schools.

Admission Requirements
  • Holder of a recognized B. Degree worth 360 credits
  • The degree should contain two (2) school subjects, both up to Level 6-4 semesters

Program Name: Bachelor in Education: Senior Primary (BESP) NQF (Level 8)

Program Focus

Offers a four-year Namibian-designed teacher education qualification to address the demand for quality primary education in Namibia.

Aims to develop skilled, committed, and insightful professionals with subject knowledge and pedagogical skills for effective and inclusive learning in Senior primary schools.

Admission Requirements
  • Holder of a Namibian Senior Secondary Certificate (NSSC) Ordinary / Higher or equivalent recognized qualification with a minimum of twenty-five (25) points in five (5) subjects.
  • One of the five subjects must be English NSSC Ordinary (English as a Second Language) obtained with a grade C minimum or English as the First language with a grade of D.
  • Another two of the five best subjects must provide a relevant basis for the two major subjects to be selected in the degree and passed at a grade C ordinary.
  • Mature age entry: Applicant should be 25 years or older on the day of registration,
  • You should have completed junior secondary education, should have at least 3 years of relevant teaching experience,
  • You should submit a ‘letter of recommendation’ from a management member of the school where you were teaching to identify the suitability of a candidate as a teacher and should submit proof that the student is currently teaching your major subjects for Grades 5 – 7 for a minimum period of 3 years.

Honours degree in Senior Primary or Senior Secondary Education. Offers specialization in a particular professional area to promote quality education and prepare teachers for a Master’s in Education.

Contributes to proper national human resources development. Aims to develop skilled, committed, and insightful professionals with subject knowledge and pedagogical skills for effective and inclusive learning in upper primary and senior secondary schools.

Admission Requirements
  • Holder of a recognized level 7 teacher qualification or a holder of a BETD plus an Advanced Certificate
  • At least one year of teaching experience and a letter of recommendation from the school principal

Program Name: Certificate in Early Childhood Education (CECE) (NQF Level 5)

Admission Requirements
  • (a) Holder of a Namibian Senior Secondary Certificate (NSSC) Ordinary / Higher or recognized equivalent with a minimum of nineteen (19) points in five (5) subjects with a D symbol in English.
  • (b) Mature age entry: Applicant must be 23 years or older on the day of registration, and should have completed junior secondary education (Grade 10) with English = D symbol, plus 5 other subjects = 23 points.
  • Has at least 2 years of relevant early childhood teaching experience.
  • (c) Transfer from the IOL Diploma in Pre-Primary Education (DPPE) Level 7.
  • (d) Transfer from the IOL Diploma in Junior Primary Education (DJPE) Level 7.
