What is a NSFAS Appeal?
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) appeal is a request to review a decision not to fund a student who applied for NSFAS funding.
Who cannot appeal?
You will not be permitted to submit an appeal if you satisfy these conditions:
- You are registered for a qualification that NSFAS does not fund;
- You have reached N+2 (or N+3 in the case of students with disabilities).
- You are a gap year student who NSFAS previously denied financial aid because you did not meet the academic eligibility criteria.
- The institution has not submitted its registration record to NSFAS or has submitted an incorrect registration record.

Closing date for NSFAS appeal 2024
You must submit your NSFAS Appeal within 30 days of receiving your application results. To submit an appeal, you should log in to your myNSFAS Student Portal and provide the requested information.
How To Submit A NSFAS Appeal
Follow these guidelines to submit your Appeal online;
- Log into your MyNSFAS Student Portal account
- Click on the Track Funding Progress tab
- Check the application progress tabs
- Click on the Submit Appeal Tab If your application status displays an unsuccessful message
- Once you are on the ‘Application Appeal’ page, you can see the reason for your unsuccessful application status
- You are then able to choose the appeal reason
- Upload certified supporting documents to support your reason
- click Submit Appeal
- You may now track the progress of the appeal on your myNSFAS account.
It is important to note that NSFAS applicants who want to appeal will also need to complete and download a relevant propensity letter.
