Application Requirements 2024
To qualify for the Allan Gray Scholarship, you must meet the following prerequisites;
- Applicant must be a current grade 6 learner in the year of application
- You must be a South African citizen
- Applicant must not be older than 12 years of age and not younger than 11 years of age in grade 6
- You must demonstrate financial need
- Applicant must obtain a minimum of 70 % for both English and Mathematics
- You must obtain a minimum overall average of 70% for all subjects
- The applicant must demonstrate the following entrepreneurial characteristics:
- Growth Mindset – the belief that one’s intelligence can be developed
- Self-Efficacy – self-belief to achieve goals
- Leadership – to positively lead and influence others
- Opportunity Identification – the ability to identify opportunities of value
- Curiosity – the ability to explore and discover new information
- Problem-Solving – the ability to solve problems creatively

Stages of your Application Process 2024
The application process involves four stages:
- Online Application: Commence by completing an online form with your personal particulars, academic history, extracurricular engagements, and brief essays. The deadline for the online application is September 30, 2024
- Aptitude Test: If you are shortlisted based on your online application, you will receive an invitation to undertake an online aptitude test that evaluates your verbal, numerical, and abstract reasoning skills. This test, lasting approximately two hours, can be taken from the comfort of your home or at a designated testing location.
- Interview: Successful performance in the aptitude test will lead to an interview with a panel comprising Allan Gray staff and alumni. The interview, spanning about an hour, will delve into your motivations, personality, and values.
- Selection Camp: If you impress during the interview, you’ll be invited to a four-day selection camp where you will engage in various group activities, workshops, and presentations. The selection camp is designed to assess your teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving capabilities.
The announcement of the final selection of Allan Gray Scholars will be made in December 2024. Those chosen will receive a confirmation letter and a welcome package with comprehensive details about the program
How to Apply for Allan Gray Scholarship 2024/2025
Follow the steps below to apply for Allan Gray Scholarship;
- Submit a hard copy of your application form and supporting documentation or apply online
- Successful applicants must take the Foundation exam in Mathematics and English for Grade 6
- After passing the Foundation exam, we will invite successful candidates for interviews
- They will extend invitations to recommended candidates for interviews at the placement schools
- Candidates whose recommendations receive approval from the placement schools will receive the Scholarship
- Once we award the Scholarship, the Foundation, placement school, and the Scholar’s custodian will sign a Memorandum of Agreement
