University of Botswana Documents Requirements

To be eligible for admission to BU, you need to meet the following documents 

  • Copy of Application fee receipt  (You are encouraged to pay their Application Fee via www.ub.bw/ubpayments or at the Banks
  • Certified copy of Degree Certificate (s)
  • Certified Copy of Transcript
  • Two copies of completed Professional/Academic References
  • Certified copy of National Identity Card (Omang for citizens) and Passport for international applicants
  • Personal Statement of Intent for Masters and Proposal/Research Plan for MPhil/PhD
  • A copy of the current practising certificate by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana or the country of origin.
  • Copy of proof of change of surname (where applicable)

Note: All former UB students who have changed their surnames should use surnames they used while they were students at UB so that the system will easily map their student ID to their surname and to their previous record. The new surname could be captured through SGS offices once the applicant has been admitted

University of Botswana General Requirements 2024

To be eligible for admission to BU, you need to meet the following general requirement

  1. English Language is a mandatory qualifying subject for all our programmes. If you are applying for a non-science degree programme, a minimum grade of C in English Language is required. However, for science-based programmes, a minimum grade of D is necessary
  2. Degree programmes, it is essential that you have achieved a minimum grade of C in at least five subjects during one or two examination sittings.
  3. For Diploma and Certificate programmes, we require a minimum of three grades of C, with a minimum grade of E in English Language. However, if you meet the minimum cut-off point based on six subjects, we may consider five subjects for evaluation
  4. To be eligible for all undergraduate Degrees, you need to have a minimum of 34 points in the BGCSE. For Diploma and Certificate programmes, the minimum entry requirement is 30 points
  5. Applicants with a BGCSE equivalent and a minimum grade of E in English Language may still be considered for admission into specific Bachelor’s Degree programmes.

How To Create Your University of Botswana Application ID

Follow the steps below to create your BU application id

  • Visit the BU website via BU Portal
  • Enter the security code in the Application ID section
  • Click on Create Application ID
  • Select your career of Study
  • Complete the form
  • Enter your National ID Number
  • Click on Continue
  • Once you receive the email, use the confirmation link on the email log-in page to enter your Application ID and Password

How To Apply For University of Botswana Admission 2024/2025

To apply for admission to BU, you need to follow the steps below

  • Visit the BU website via BU Portal
  • Enter your application ID and password
  • Fill in the application form
  • Then, attach the required documents (such as certified copies of your academic certificates, identity card or passport, and proof of payment of the application fee)
  • Submit your application form and documents to any BOU regional office or mail them to the BOU Admissions Office
  • Wait for the confirmation of your admission status from BOU via email or SMS
