Are you a National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) Beneficiary in a College or University looking to secure accommodation as an on-campus or off-campus resident? If the answer is yes, then you are on the right article. In this article, we will assist NSFAS beneficiaries with guidelines on applying for NSFAS-approved residence online using the NSFAS Accommodation Portal.
Students are to first check the respective institution’s website for accommodation arrangements before applying on the NSFAS accommodation portal.
How to register for NSFAS Accommodation Online
NSFAS beneficiaries are to follow the steps outlined below to apply for accommodation online;
- Visit the NSFAS Accommodation Portal at https://profprod.nsfas.org.za
- Click on the Register link from the menu
- Fill out the registration form with all the details required to create your account
- An email with a temporary password will be sent to your email address
- Log into your email account to confirm the registration process

Students with an existing NSFAS accommodation portal can log in with their username and password to apply for residence with these steps;
- Log into your accommodation portal with your email address and password that was sent to your email address
- A one-time PIN (OTP) will be sent to your phone number.
- Enter it in the boxes provided then select your province, institution, and campus.
- Now create your preferred password and proceed.
- Click on the Find Accommodations button
- Click on any property to view more details and pictures. (NB: You can apply to a maximum of three properties.)
- Once you’ve clicked on a property, you can see more details about it.
- Click on the Available Rooms tab to see the beds that are still available at this property.
- Select the type of room you’d like from the available rooms in the property. You may also leave a comment if you so desire.
- There you have it, you’re all done! On the next page you’ll notice your status has changed.
- Your status has now changed to Waiting For Approval. The accommodation provider will be notified of your application to stay in their property. They will view your application and choose to accept or decline it. You will receive an email informing you that the accommodation provider has accepted or declined your application. If they accept it, your signed lease agreement will be stored for you to view under My Lease Agreements highlighted below. If they declined you or their property has filled up, you’ll also be notified by email. You can then apply for another property to replace that one.

- NSFAS funded students are requested to take up properties that have been made available for them which are ACCREDITED.
- No NSFAS funded student will be paid accommodation allowances if residing in an UNACCREDITED ACCOMMODATION without NSFAS and institution permission
- NSFAS WILL NOT pay unaccredited Accommodation Providers who accommodate NSFAS funded students without following processes.
