Kenya Defence Force – KDF Recruitment 2024. The Kenya Defence Force (KDF) is calling for applications from interested and qualified Kenya Citizens interested in joining the Kenya Defence Force as General Service Officers, Cadets and Specialist Officers for the 2024/2025 KDF recruitment exercise.
The objective of this post is to assist our readers with all the guidelines and information required by applicants to successfully complete the 2024 KDF application process. The post will cover the requirements for KDF recruitment, KDF Application process.
Requirement for KDF Recruitment 2024
Applicants interested in joining the Kenya Defence Force (KDF) must meet the following requirements in order to be considered for enlistment;
KDF General Entry Requirements
- Applicants must be Kenyan citizens with no dual citizenship
- An applicant must hold a valid Kenyan National Identity Card
- Applicants must be between Ages 18 – 26 years for GSO Cadets, General Duty Recruits and Tradesmen/women with Certificate/Government Trade Test, not above 30 years for Specialist Officers, Tradesmen/women with Diploma, and not above 39 years for Chaplains/Imaams.
- Be physically and medically fit in accordance with the KDF medical standards.
- Applicant must have no criminal record.
- A Minimum Height of 1.60m (5ft 3in) for Male applicants and 1.52m (5ft) for Female applicants
- Female applicants must NOT be pregnant at the time of recruitment and during the entire duration of training.

Academic Requirements for Kenya Defence Force (KDF) Recruitment
General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets
- Must hold a minimum mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics and one Science subject.
- The training period for this category will cover three (3) years leading to a BSc degree in Military Science and Security Studies upon completion.
General Service Officer (GSO) Cadet – Graduate Degree Holders
In addition to the general requirements applicants must meet the following requirements;
- Must hold a minimum mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics and one Science subject.
- Applicants must hold a minimum undergraduate to qualify as GSO Cadet from a recognized University.
- The training period for this category will be twelve (12) months
Specialist Officers
In addition to the general requirements, applicants must meet the following requirements;
- A minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus) in KCSE except for Chaplains/Imaams
- Applicants must hold a minimum undergraduate to qualify as S.O. from a recognized University
- The training period for Specialist Officers will be six (6) months. (4) Servicemen/women (General Duty) Recruits.
KDF Recruitment Requirements for Artisans (Certificate Holders)
- Carpenter: Must hold a Certificate/Craft in Carpentry and Joinery.
- Cook: Must hold a certificate in Food Production.
- Electrical Technician. Must hold a Certificate/Craft in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
- Fitter: Must hold a Certificate/Craft in Welding and Fabrication.
- Mason: Must hold a Certificate/Craft in Masonry and Brick Laying.
- Tailor: Must hold a Certificate/Craft in Tailoring.
- Vehicle Mechanic: Must hold a Certificate/Craft in Auto Engineering or Vehicle Mechanics
